Betsson has moved to establish its name even further in Brazil, with the betting giant confirming that it has reached an agreement with the country’s Pernambuco Football Federation (FPF) to sponsor the Pernambucano Championship.

The deal is the largest sponsorship in the history of the FPF, and the contract includes naming rights for the competition. The tournament’s 108th edition will commence on January 22 this year and will be called Pernambucano Betsson 2022.

The sponsorship is a key plank of Betsson’s drive to become a major player in the lucrative South American betting market. Betsson is rightly recognised as a global betting giant, and the Pernambucano is viewed as an iconic soccer tournament. Our Betsson review can tell you more about this Swedish betting operator.

Andre Gelfi, managing partner of Betsson in Brazil, is delighted to be linking up with such an important South American football competition.

A way for the Betsson brand to engage Brazilian fans

“Following our good experience in the region by supporting Íbis Sport Club, we truly believe in the potential of this championship to further expose our brand and engage with fans,” he said.

Evandro Carvalho, President of FPF, is similarly excited by the deal, which he believes highlights just how strong football is in his state.

“We are very happy with Betsson’s support, which allows us to invest even more in soccer in Pernambuco, and pay for all the officials of the championship such as the referees, assistant referees and VAR in the final stages,” he said.

“Betsson is a market leader that is betting on the credibility that the Federation has earned over the years.”

In 2021, the finals of the Pernambucano attracted record audiences. Viewing figures surpassed those of the Paulista and Carioca Championships.

Betsson first established itself in Brazil in 2019, and in 2021 became Íbis Sport Club’s main sponsor. Íbis are set to play in the Pernambucano’s A1 Series for the first time in 21 years. Betsson is the first and only licensed operator in the Brazilian market for sports games such as virtual sports betting. It works in partnership with the Jockey Club of Rio Grande do Sul.

Pernambuco is located in north-eastern Brazil and is the country’s seventh-most populous state, with around 9.6 million residents.

Betsson taking South America seriously

This move into the Brazilian market for Betsson follows other partnership deals in South America. In addition to sponsoring the Pernambucano in Brazil, Betsson, which possesses a stable of 20 brands including Betsafe.com, NordicBet.com and CasinoEuro, also recently inked partnership deals in Chile, Peru and Colombia.

Also in 2022, Betsson was confirmed as the main sponsor of Chilean soccer giants Colo Colo, a club that has never been relegated from their country’s top flight and remains the only Chilean winner of the Copa Libertadores. Betsson also sponsor the Campeonato de Ascenso in Chile, as well as the Chilean national team, La Roja.

The operator also sponsors Peru’s Liga 1 football competition and was the official regional sponsor of CONMEBOL Copa América 2021. The company has also secured one of seven licences to operate in Buenos Aries, the capital of Argentina.
